It is with the greatest distress that we learned about the death of Fields Medalist Vladimir Voevodsky on September 30, 2017, at the age of 51, just one day after the end of the 5th Heidelberg Laureate Forum. Vladimir was an outstanding mathematician, a great teacher, and a genuinely pleasant person. When he participated in the HLF he always loved to interact with the young researchers, and they loved to interact with him. As a member of HLF’s Scientific Committee he made many valuable suggestions on how to improve our program structure.
Vladimir had planned to attend the 5th HLF, but his health did not allow him to come. We lost a creative scientist who had many great plans for his future work, which will now remain incomplete. We also lost a very good friend of the HLF and a great supporter of its agenda. We will always treasure his memory.
