The Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation is not involved in the selection of the participating students. The 200 young researchers are selected (based on the application material submitted) by international experts who are appointed by the award-granting institutions: The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (DNVA) and the International Mathematical Union (IMU). There are two such expert panels, one for mathematics, and one for computer science.
Each successfully completed and submitted application is reviewed by at least three international reviewers who rate the applications. The top 100 in each discipline are invited. The reviewers come from across the globe, so they can accurately evaluate applications from a wide variety of disciplines and institutions.
